What we do
We support children in crisis.
Kuselo’s main focus is to protect and care for children in crises, in harm’s way or those affected or involved due to abuse or neglect. Many children are exposed to violent or criminal acts that puts them in mental or emotional harm or distress. This all placing a minor child in eminent danger. Kuselo assists these children to ensure that they benefit from all services rendered to aid this child to overcome trauma or to be placed into healthy environments that they too are free from violence and abuse.
Crises Centre:
Kuselo provides a crisis centre overnight residential care facility to children in need, who have been removed from their homes due to severe abuse, neglect or other criminal acts, for a period not exceeding 72 hours.
We Safeguard
Within this programme children are removed by SAPS or Social Workers to protect their wellbeing, placed at Kuselo with a legal form 36 in safe guard care where they will be kept safe/protected until the Social Worker can locate a approved family member.
We Litigate
Kuselo will ensure that the child receives all necessary aid, medical examination/treatment, if need be criminal case opened against a suspected perpetrator, if need be, we take the child for a rape kit to be done.
We Document
We ensure that all necessary documentation & information is collected for court process. After all inspections are done, we ensure that this little person has a bath and is dressed as well as fed.
We Rehome
When the child is ready to be surrendered to the Welfare or court as parcel is made up of clothing, toiletries and a care parcel as a start up for the child going to his/her forever home.
We Care
We assist 17 house holds and over 150 children weekly with food. May it be cooked food or food parcel on availability of donation of food items received to various children and families within Boksburg, Actonville, Velalisa and Reiger Park.
Angel’s ECD Programme:
New life for children.
Kuselo CYCS established a Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme at the facility, this foundation phase educational programme is to assist toddlers and middle age group children to earn the right to basic education as many parents do not have the financial means to send their children to a crèche who does school readiness. The children are taught by qualified ECD Practitioners and facilitators to ensure that the children are taught in accordance to the Department of Education norms and standards.
Community outreach programme:
Kuselo CYCS also functions as a collection and distribution service provider. Community supports this programme by donating food, clothing, bedding and materialistic basic needs that is distributed to persons in need.
People Upliftment Programme (PUP):
The PUP programme takes a holistic approach to uplifting under-privileged communities by addressing the specific needs of individuals. PUP provides services to all persons under Kuselo’s care, regardless of race, culture, gender or religion. These services include family, trauma, abuse and rape counselling; family intervention, preservation and reunification; crisis support; substance abuse programmes; age-appropriate child and adult capacity-building; and initiatives to build, restore and sustain healthy family relationships, reduce domestic violence and create a better home life for all.
